Gastrofiberscopic Observation on Benign Gastric Ulcer

Abstract
Gastrofiberscopic examination was applied to the patients who were suggested to have gastric ulcer on x-ray Barium study. Among these patients, 171 cases were selected in this study and analysed for age incidence, prevalent site and the characteristics of benign ulcers.
The results obtained were as follows.
1) The most frequent occurrence of benign gastric ulcer appeared in the age group of fourth and fifth decade with an incidence f 60.8% and male to female ratio was approximatly six to one.
2) The most prevalent site of gastric ulcer was stomach body with an incidence o 40. 5% and next comes angular and antral portion with a rate of 39.0% and 20.0% respectively.
3) In comparison of endoscopic findings to Barium x-ray study, it was found that 46 cases have different diagnosis on both examination, in which fifteen of gastric ulcer were read as normal radiologically and six radiological ulcers were normal on endoscopic study, and nine benign ulcers were proved malignant, sixteen malignant were benign on gastroscopic examination respectivelly.
4) The majority of the cases have round ulcers and a small number of cases were ovoid, triangular or linear form in shape including thirteen (7.6%) multiple ulcers.
The characteristics, of benign ulcers were also studied during the clinical course which are contributable findings for differentiation from malignant ulcers.
